Snowpack Report
1-20-2026
Hi everyone — hope your winter is treating you well.
Here’s a quick snapshot of where things stand in Southwest Colorado right now. As of today (January 19, 2026), the San Miguel–Dolores–Animas–San Juan basin (our part of the world in the South San Juans) is sitting at 52% of median snowpack. For a little extra context, Colorado statewide is currently at 59% of median.
What this means for fishing: we’ll be paying close attention from here on out, because late-winter storms can change the picture quickly. If we stayed right where we are today, May and June could shape up nicely. Ideally, we add some meaningful snow over the months of February into May —not to “wish away” early fishing, but to build a healthier water picture as summer goes on and keep things in a good place later in the season. Either way, we’ll keep tracking it and sharing updates as the runoff picture comes into focus.
As always, we’ll keep you posted as conditions develop. And if you’re thinking about a trip this season, reach out anytime — we’re happy to talk dates and help you find the right fit.
